The Company
Robert Half is excited to be working on an exclusive basis with a leading Energy company in Abu Dhabi. Due to a reorganization they are looking to recruit a Head of General Ledger & Technical Accounting.
The Role
The General Ledger and Technical Accounting Head is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate publication of monthly financial statements, Overseeing all general ledger and technical accounting activities and ensuring the integrity and consistency of data across reports generated for various stakeholders as well as regulatory requirements. The General Ledger and Technical Accounting Head is also responsible for monitoring staff performance and providing continuous feedback and support to foster Section improvement efforts
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the development and maintenance of timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the stakeholders and in accordance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee the functioning of the direct and indirect taxation sub-function which includes ensuring correct calculations, deductions, deposits, filing of returns and managing any litigations related to indirect tax
  • Oversee the reporting and recording of VAT relevant transactions in compliance with the UAE VAT laws and regulations
  • Define and implement accounting policies and procedures for review and ensure the development and implement new accounting and finance processes and drive harmonisation with accounting manual (i.e. IFRS 16, IFRS 9, IFRS 15 processes, etc.)
  • Manage the general ledger activities which include approving journal entries and batches for entry of financial transactions into the general ledger. Overseeing the investigation of journal entries with missing support documents related to sources. Ensuring integrity of chart of accounts, general ledger and its related processes
  • Ensuring transfers from sub-ledgers to general ledger and the reconciliation between sub-ledgers and general ledger are being performed on a regular basis
  • Managing period/ year end/ open/ close processes
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity ensuring the resolution of any issues in a timely manner
  • Review period end closing process and financial reporting and closing and calendar activities
  • Manage statutory reporting and coordinate auditing processes (i.e. year end audits and other agreed upon procedures)
  • Manage the preparation and review of management positions related to complex technical accounting issues
  • Develop in-house technical accounting expertise to support other departments with accounting impact on key decisions
  • Contribute to the development and execution of department strategy, policies and procedures in alignment with the functional objectives taking into account the changing needs of the business.
  • Manage the activities of direct reports to ensure that all work is carried out in an efficient manner, in line with the section plans, and policies and procedures
  • Provide input into the preparation and consolidation of the function's budget and advise line management on risks and opportunities
  • Implement the opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account 'international leading practice' and changes in business environment and leveraging insights. This includes managing the related change management efforts
  • Ensure that all relative reports are prepared timely and accurately, and meet the section's requirements, policies and standards
The Candidate
  • Professional Accounting certification (ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in accounting, finance or related role of which 2-4 in a managerial position
  • Energy and utility sector
Salary and Benefits
Up to 45,000aed per month plus Education
