Responsibilities: The purpose of this post is to provide leadership and management of the EAL Department. The Head of EAL will demonstrate a vision for outstanding provision for EAL for students of all ages, and the planning and leadership skills required to achieve that vision. The Head of EAL will work alongside the Phase Leaders, Grade Group Leaders and SLT to raise the standards for English across the whole school.
General Responsibilities: Plan and deliver interventions, across the whole School. Coordinate in class support for targeted children. Writing and reviewing of action plans for targeted students. Implementation of targets. Liaising with teachers and advising. Management of CAs and EAL teachers. Responsible for the development of timetables. Regular analysis of data, that will then inform planning and provision. Classroom observation of students and appropriate strategies then disseminated to class/subject teachers. Provide Tier 3 support to identified cohorts. Delivering of training to staff. Arrange meetings with parents to support specifically targeted students. Attending line managements with the Vice Principal, Curriculum, where key information about students is shared and discussed. Attend Aldar EAL network meetings. Before and after school duties. Coordination of access arrangements for MAPs assessments. Continue personal development in relevant areas especially subject knowledge & teaching methods.
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Suitably qualified for ADEK compliance. Bachelor's degree in Education or other relevant field with a teaching qualification. Minimum of six years' experience teaching EAL. Minimum Experience: Leadership experience. Experience of working with parents and external agencies. Experience of working with children with a variety of EAL needs. Be able to work flexibly with a team of specialist staff across Primary/Elementary age range. Experience of working successfully with partners in the local community. US Curriculum knowledge desirable, but not essential. Job Specific Knowledge & Skills: Ability to lead and work collaboratively in a team. Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to inspire and motivate staff and students. Understanding of equal opportunities issues in schools. Ability to be flexible and adaptable. High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to form good relationships with students, colleagues and parents. Well organised and efficient including completing agreed tasks within set timescales. Confident and proactive approach to problem solving - self-motivated and self-disciplined. The ability and confidence to learn a new ICT system. Sound knowledge of national policies and developments in EAL education. Ability to present effectively to a range of audiences.
